7-8 Boys
The boys 7-8 age basketball program focuses on building a deeper understanding of the game while continuing to develop fundamental skills. At this stage, players are introduced to more advanced techniques in dribbling, passing, shooting, and basic defensive concepts. Coaches use a variety of drills and exercises to enhance these skills in a structured yet enjoyable manner.

Understanding the Game
- Expanded Rules: Children begin to learn more detailed rules of the game, such as traveling, double dribbling, and basic violations. They start to understand concepts like offense and defense more deeply.
- Game Flow: Players get a better grasp of the flow of the game, including transitions between offense and defense, and the importance of positioning on the court.
- Developing Strategy: Introduction to game strategy is implemented and players learn about general offensive positions and simple plays.
Developing Fundamentals
- Advanced Dribbling: Dribbling drills become more complex, incorporating moves like crossovers, and dribbling with increased speed and control.
- Varied Passing: Players practice different types of passes, such as overhead passes and bounce passes, with an emphasis on accuracy and timing.
- Shooting Technique: Shooting practice includes focusing on proper form, aiming, and shooting from different spots on the court. Layups and basic set shots are introduced.
- Defensive Skills: Basic defensive stances and movements are taught, along with simple concepts like guarding an opponent while not committing fouls.
